About Us

WELCOME TO WESTWOOD LACROSSE - RRISD - AUSTIN, TEXAS

Welcome to the Westwood High School Boys Lacrosse Website. Our Parent Club is the organization that supports and promotes the Westwood Lacrosse program. As a club sport, RRISD provides access to fields for our practices and games but our club is totally responsible for funding our activites. We rely on fund-raisers, parent volunteers, player dues, dedicated coaches, and gracious sponsors to cover our costs and complete the necessary tasks to operate and run a high school level sports team. This website is dedicated to providing information for our players, parents, coaches, volunteers, and sponsors.

For additional information about our Lacrosse program, please navigate through our website including the Frequently Asked Question Section listed at the top of the page.

Rob Nielson

The Westwood Lacrosse team welcomes its new school sponsor, Mr. Rob Nielson, who teaches American Sign Language.  Currently in his third year at Westwood, Mr. Nielson's interest in lacrosse was sparked by his daughter, Krystal Nielson, who plays on the JV women's lacrosse team this year.

With undergraduate and master's degrees from Idaho State University in Sign Language Studies and Secondary Education, Mr. Nielson had hoped to finish his doctorate and teach at the college level, but this opportunity at Westwood came along, and he decided to move his family to central Texas while finishing up his PhD.

"In the Deaf world, we give each other 'name signs,' kind of like the nicknames parents give their kids.  My name -sign is 'nuts' because it is rumored that I like to drive people that directrion.  I look forward to obtaining my doctorate so my students can call me 'Dr. Nuts.'"

Mr. Nielson has been married to his wife Karen for nearly 19 years, and they have five children in the Round Rock ISD, two of whom are at Westwood this year.  Mr. Nielson loves all sports and was involved in football, wrestling and track throughout high school, and still loves the occasional pick-up game of football with friends.
