Westwood Lacrosse

NO PASS / NO PLAY POLICY

Note: Westwood Lacrosse policy basically mirrors RRISD policy.

What we do on the field is important, but not nearly as important as what happens in the classroom.

Getting grades to coaches

Coaches provide Ms. Cassidy with a roster, and she reports if any players have failed in the six week grading cycle.

A failing grade is a grade lower than a 70. This is RRISD policy as stated on every report card

Upon receiving a failing grade notification the player shall participate in practices, but may not participate in games. Participating in games includes riding on team busses and being on the team sideline during games. It is up to the player and parents to decide whether or not to take a Leave of Absence (see TYPE I ABSENCES in the Westwood Attendance Policy) from the team.

Exception:

If a player receives a grade lower than a 70 but higher than a 59 in a weighted class the player may participate in practices and games with a written permission from the parents.

After a failing grade is reported, a player is not eligible to participate in games until one of the following three reinstatement requirements are met:

  1. Player provides a note(s) from the teacher(s) in the class(es) that the player has the failing grade(s), stating that the player is currently maintaining a passing grade. This letter must be also signed by the parent.
  2. Player provides a three week progress report that does not include the class they failed or a letter from the parents stating that no progress report was received. NOTE: If a progress report includes a class that was not failed in the previous 6 week report card, the player is still eligible for practices and games.
  3. Player provides the subsequent 6 week report card showing passing grades in all classes.
